About the council

We have identified our three key priorities as: Our Environment, Our People, Our Future.
Our plan seeks to ensure that our District remains a great place to live, visit and invest.

The current political structure of the council is as follows:

• 22 Conservative
• 14 Labour

The council’s vision is that it will make South Derbyshire a better place to live, visit and invest. We set out to deliver this by focusing on the things that are most important to the District and its success, namely our People, our Environment and our Future. These three themes underpin everything we do. Our new Corporate Plan is a concise statement of our objectives in each of these areas.

On 27 June 2019, South Derbyshire District Council declared a Climate Emergency. All of our activities must be considered in the light of their overall sustainability: we are committed to net zero carbon for our own activities by 2030 and are working with partners to achieve carbon neutrality across the District by 2050.

Together we will:

Achieve excellence in all we do
We will take pride in our District, always striving for continuous improvement.
