About the council

The council’s vision is that it will make South Derbyshire a better place to live, work and visit.

The current political structure of the council is as follows:

  • 22 Conservative
  • 14 Labour

The council’s vision is that it will make South Derbyshire a better place to live, work and visit. We set out to deliver this by focusing on the things that are most important to the District and its success, namely its People, the Place and Progress. By considering what we do in the context of these three overarching themes we can measure Outcomes more effectively.

The outcomes we are striving to deliver include:

• Financial health;
• Good governance;
• Customer focus;
• Equality and Diversity;
• Environmental standards;
• A skilled workforce;
• Democracy.

We will achieve this goal by remaining true to our values in all we undertake:

• Put our residents first;
• Set clear targets;
• Act decisively;
• Lead for success;
• Actively listen and resolve problems;
• Develop our staff;
• Be driven by economy, effectiveness and efficiency.
